NEWS RELEASE FROM VOICEPRINT CANADA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACCESSIBLE SOLUTION FOR VISION-IMPAIRED CABLE SUBSCRIBERS November 5, 2004 (Toronto, ON) - Blind and low-vision cable subscribers will now be able to access newspapers and magazines in an audio format and described television programs at the touch of a button across the country. VoicePrint Canada introduces the SAP-TV Audio Receiver, today, which provides a solution to the difficulty of accessing the Secondary Audio Programming (S.A.P.) by blind and low-vision Canadians. Various cable broadcasters currently have audio services available on their S.A.P., such as VoicePrint Canada or described video. "We designed this unit to make the S.A.P. less technical for people who are a little wary about using new technology," says John Stubbs, Director of Operations and designer of the SAP-TV Audio Receiver. Stubbs continues, "The one-touch aspect makes it easy for everyone to use." The SAP-TV Audio Receivers are available through VoicePrint Canada and provide users with independent access to the S.A.P. "For a totally blind user," says Aman Singer, a user of the new receiver, "S.A.P. is all but impossible to access independently with most televisions." Users will be able to access VoicePrint Canada's national reading service as well as a multitude of described programming that adds a narrative track to describe on-screen action sequences available through many channels across the country. The receiver can be used on its own or by attaching it to a television set to be enjoyed by a blended audience of blind, vision-impaired and sighted viewers. VoicePrint Canada is a not-for-profit charity established in 1989 to enhance access to printed news and information by more than 3.5 million vision- and print-restricted Canadians. VoicePrint Canada can be accessed on the S.A.P. of CBC Newsworld; Star Choice, ExpressVu, Look TV and Skycable audio channels; and on the web at www.voiceprintcanada.com. -30- For more information: Pamela Muņoz Communications Officer VoicePrint Canada pmunoz@voiceprintcanada.com 1-800-567-6755 (ext. 227) 416-949-1580
